On the night this was destroyed, I dreamed that the library I work at was on fire, the fourth floor and some of the third floor, and I was trying to evacuate people...
I woke up and discovered that the fourth and third floors of the Forest Arms, which was only half a block away from where I was staying, had burned in the night. Luckily everyone was able to get out alive. Peoples Records had to relocate, though, and Amsterdam Espresso was utterly destroyed, which is sad.

Worked here for several years. It's a wonderful library, and a good quiet place to study or read or whatever.

Perry Screw & Bolt, The old Screw and Bolt place on Grand River is still alive and well as American Integrated Supply, The Screw & Bolt Place on Grand River. I stopped by to pick up some stainlees steel fasteners and found that Jeff and his brother-in-law Jerry had moved back into the old 1940's storefront that Jeff's dad had built and is carrying on the tradition personal service for all your fastener needs.

Its a sober testament to the ignorance of many that this a seen as a capitalist reality. Of course there are no such relics of socialist economies....

Weren't those the days when you could drive down Telegraph by Seven mile at Christmas time and see Santa and all his reindeer on the restaurant's roof. This restaurant had many famous Hollywood stars visiting to eat after they played in Detroit's marvelous theaters. I was born in the Motor City in the early 60's and lived there until the mid 70's. My mom worked at Topinka's and waited on customers like Jimmy Stewart until it burned down in the early 70's, right after New Year Day I think. What a shame, that place was filled with antique Tiffiney glass lights hanging in one of the four different dining rooms. I sure wish time would stand still sometimes and I could go to Topinka's for a delicious meal.
