I was born in William Booth Memorial Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. My mother was a nurse at the hospital as well. somehow we managed to keep me. I would guess she had to fight tooth and nail.

Таких "реликвий социалистических экономик" в нашей стране стало полно именно после перехода на рыночную экономику. До того всё это, как ни странно, вполне себе работало.

This is Sharon. I messed up my original comment!! I met my son's adoptive parents at his 40th birthday party!! NOT HIM!! I met him when he was 38! And he got to meet my mother who was very elderly at the time. Another of God's gifts. :]

I was there in 1963. The Salvation Army personnel were rude. When we had to go to church services, they put us down as tramps and sluts for having children and being unwed. I "ran away" and was fortunate enough to find a babysitting job in another city until I went into Crittenton Hospital in Detroit, where i had my son. I waited many years, thinking he would contact me. When he turned 38 years old, I said ENOUGH! I went to a site on the Internet called Birth Mothers, I believe it was. A woman on the site offered to help me because she was from Sandusky, Michigan where I had found out my son had been adopted. It was God's handiwork! Her brother was my son's friend!! And he and I have been in touch since then. He's 55 now, and his adoptive parents were good to him. I was fortunate enough to meet him at his 40th birthday party!! I've always wondered what happened to Booth Memorial Hospital, and all these years later - now I know. Thank you for having this site! God bless you all. It was a very difficult time in our lives, back then!! Sharon.

I lived near the crash site, heard the plane. I jumped on my bike and rode to the crash scene. The destruction was tremendous. Now I live in Woodhaven, about 1 mile from Oak Ridge Cementary. Each time I pass I see the flag poles and think back on that terrible day. It's been 60 years but to me it seems like just the other day.

I should probably add that I am sure this old Mom & Pop Candy Store has been closed for YEARS. I work within Public Safety for the City of Detroit and pass through this area on my way back home from the Detroit Police Training center at McGraw and Linwood. If anyone has some old photos or information about this place please add!
